Check Imaging Frequently Asked Questions
Q.
What are the advantages of Check imaging?
A.
With check imaging your record keeping and balancing will be simplified.
Although your monthly statement will remain the same, your new check images
will be easier to read and they will be provided to you in numerical order,
eliminating the need to sort checks before balancing your checkbook.
Storage is much more
convenient. Your statements will be pre-punched for insertion into a three
ring binder we will provide to you at no charge.
Quick reference becomes
easy. In addition to being in numerical order, below each check image
will be the date the bank processed the check, check number, and dollar
amount. No more digging through loose checks in a shoebox!
Q.
What
if I would like to get my checks back?
A.
You will be receiving all your checks back, just in a different format.
We are still returning your checks to you; they are just printed on different
paper. If you have used a check for proof of payment in the past, you
probably sent a copy of the check and not the actual check itself. Plus
the IRS and the Federal Court System both accept this new technology as
proof of payment.
Q.
What
if I need to see the back of a check?
A.
The backs of the checks have not been included in order to streamline
the statement. However, if you should ever need an image of the back of
your check for proof of payment, it can be available almost immediately
by fax, mail, or pick up at the bank.
Also, you may see
the front and back of checks from your current and previous statement
cycle free of charge with Internet Banking.
Q.
What
if I have trouble reading the checks because they are too small, can you
help?
A.
We can offer some flexibility to help customize your check images statement
to meet your needs. We understand you may have individual requirements
and we encourage you to work with our personal bankers who are ready to
help you decide what is right for you.
Q.
Will this service raise my fees?
A.
No! Check Imaging is an efficient process that will drastically improve
retrieval time and research is immediate. Check Imaging enhances our customer
service to make your banking experience with us easier and more convenient.
Q.
Is
this really legal proof of payment?
A.
We can give you a copy of the IRS ruling that proves the IRS accepts check
images as legal proof of purchase. The Best Evidence Rule has been in
effect for years, which says an item can serve as evidence in every way,
exactly as if it were the original item, when it is provided by a bank
and obtained from the original document.
